With 10 years post qualification experience with Keppie Design, Ian Springford Architects and NGP Architects in residential, commercial, leisure, industrial and mixed use developments.
As Associate with Allan Murray Architects he lead the Caltongate team to masterplan a high profile £300m mixed use development within the Unesco World Heritage site of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile which incorporated 5* hotel, office and domestic buildings.
As project architect to construct a private villa in Merchiston off site fabrication and sustainable design techniques were used to achieve near passive house status. This house was shorlisted in the Regional RIBA awards for “Best Building in Scotland”.
International consultancy work has involved Design Management of new town masterplans for housing and infratructure in Tripoli (10,000 units) and Benghazi (20,000 units) of 3/4 bedroom apartments. This incorporated co-ordination of transportation, structures and utilities design at a city scale. Environmental initiniatives to reduce water consumption, recycled grey water for landscape irrigation by using onsite sewerage treatment. Optimisation of road layouts to reduce impact and with focus on building performance including specification of cladding systems suitable for an agressive environment merging Saharah desert with the Meditranean coastline.
